On April 15, 1999, British Home Secretary Jack Straw announced he was allowing the Pinochet extradition to proceed, stating the remaining allegations of torture and conspiracy to torture satisfy the European Convention on Extradition and obligate Britain to allow the Spanish request to go before British courts.
