On February 14, 1999, a Turkish security detail and commando team intercepted a jeep driven by a Kenyan security officer en route to the airport in Nairobi, Kenya, arrested, and returned Abdullah Ocalan to Turkey, where he faces a series of charges stemming from his role as leader of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK).
