Abstract: 
On September 30, 2011, a C.I.A.-operated drone strike in northern Yemen killed Anwar al-Aulaqi, a U.S.-born militant and Muslim cleric and an influential al-Qaeda leader and a second U.S. citizen - Samir Khan, the co-editor of an editor of an al-Qaeda magazine.  Also killed were two other unidentified al-Qaeda operatives.
