Abstract:
On August 2, 2007, the Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) convicted two former leaders of a pro-government militia of war crimes perpetrated during the civil war during the 1990s. The SCSL’s trial chamber found Moinina Fofana and Allieu Kondewa of the pro-government Civil Defence Forces (CDF) militia guilty of four counts of murder, cruel treatment, pillage and collective punishments. The court convicted Kondewa of recruiting child combatants, but found Fofana not guilty of this same count.
