Abstract:
On September 8, 2003, a Swiss Federal Court in Lausanne decided that there is sufficient connection between the allegations of corruption against the former President of Peru, Alberto Fujimori, and the funds on Swiss bank accounts in dispute. Thus, the court finally determined the legitimacy of the blocking of three bank accounts in Zurich and Lugano, Switzerland, a year ago. The court based its decision (B 119207/14) on the Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Treaty between Switzerland and Peru as in effect of December 2, 1998.
Fujimori and Vladimiro Montesinos, the former head of the Peruvian Intelligence Agency, as well as Nicolas de Bari Hermoza, the former head of the Peruvian military, are currently facing allegations of corruption, criminal conspiracy and further offenses....[more]
