Abstract:
In an interview on January 20, 1994, Panamanian President Guillermo Endara disclosed that Panamanian authorities were informed and "indirectly" assisted Italian police in dismantling an important money laundering network of the Cali cartel. Endara denied Italian reports that arrests were made in Panama in connection with the "Unigold" operation. On January 19, 1994, the authorities closed the network as a result of an international operation conducted with the participation of Italian and U.S. authorities.
