On January 5, 2000, U.S. District Judge Peter C. Economus, in Youngstown, Ohio, imposed the maximum fine under the Economic Espionage Act (EEA) of $5 million after Four Pillars Enterprise Ltd., a Taiwanese adhesives company, was convicted following the first trial under the Act.
