Abstract:
On March 6, 1985, the Governments of the United States and The Bahamas concluded an agreement on the interdiction of narcotics trafficking.  The U.S. agrees to provide the Bahamian Government with communications equipment for use by the Royal Bahamas Police (RPB) to improve the existing Family Island Communication Network (FICN).  Valued at U.S. $225,000, and consisting of "base stations" and "portable transceiver units" for use during operations undertaken with U.S. authorities, the Bahamas agrees to rely on the aid of the Bureau of International Narcotics Matters during the beginning period of the installation to maximize the effectiveness of the equipment.
