On January 22, 1993, after many months of pressure, China promised to work with the U.S. to halt shipments of illegally labeled Chinese textile products and to criminally prosecute violators. At stake is nearly US$4 billion in textiles that China exports to the U.S. annually. It is believed that US $2 billion more is moved illegally through other countries.
