Abstract: 
On January 26, 1987, Senator William Proxmire (D-Wis.), Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, introduced a resolution (S Res 82) whereby the Senate would urge the Reagan Administration to impose new sanctions on South Africa unless Pretoria takes action to end apartheid according to a timetable in a year.
