Abstract:
On July 30, 2003, the Peruvian government submitted a 700-page extradition request to Japan regarding Japanese national and Peruvian ex-president Alberto Fujimori. Mr. Fujimori was charged with murder, embezzlement and treason for actions during his autocratic rule from 1990-2000. Fujimori claims the request is politically motivated. It is unlikely Japan will accept the request, since Japan and Peru do not have a treaty governing extradition.
