On December 31, 2008, the Mexican government extradited ten major drug trafficking defendants to the United States. According to a U.S. Department of Justice press release, the defendants are accused of being associated with some of the most notorious Mexican drug trafficking organizations, including the Gulf Cartel, the Arellano Felix Organization and the Sinaloa Cartel.
