Abstract:
A growing number of reports suggest that the U.S. policy of deporting aliens who commit domestic crimes to the Caribbean is overwhelming Caribbean law enforcement agencies, who struggle to cope with the surge of criminals. Over the past seven years, the U.S. has deported over 36,000 criminal aliens to the Caribbean. During this time, the Dominican Republic received the largest number of deportees – 17,527 between 1998 and 2005. Jamaica was second, with 11,455 during this period; in 2004 alone, it received 1,658.
