On November 25, 2008, Israeli police seized 1.5 tons of cocaine, worth an estimated NIS 2 billion, as a result of three raids targeting a major international cocaine ring. They arrested several Israelis from the Haifa area following Israeli police and customs coordination with their Spanish and Peruvian counterparts.
