Abstract:
The Kimberly Process, an international effort to stem the global trade in conflict diamonds, emerged from its 2006 annual meeting with renewed energy as participating governments and private sector groups called for greater efforts to fulfill the Process’ early promise. On the state level, a number of governments voiced support for stricter regulation of the diamond trade, and even the Process’ skeptics concede that since its inception the percentage of total diamonds that can be traced to conflict zone alluvial mining has decreased.
