Abstract:
On January 21, 2015, Italian Carabinieri (military police) displayed at Terme de Diocleziano museum, during a press conference in Rome, what they said was a record amount of rare antiquities illegally looted from Italy and discovered during raids on Swiss warehouses belonging to the art dealer Gianfranco Becchina, based in Basel. Prosecutors accuse him and his wife of participating in a huge trafficking network which included tomb raiders in southern Italy, and dealers and buyers worldwide.
