On October 16, 2000, the media noted that the Swedish Government is under new pressure to re-examine the extradition of Martin Ardbo, the former chief of Bofors, the Swedish armaments company, whose extradition has been requested in connection with alleged bribes for the sale in 1986 of 410 field howitzers to India for SKr8.4bn. On October 16, 2000, Johan Lönnroth, vice-chair of the Swedish Left party, called for Mr. Ardbo to go voluntarily to India to face the charges.
