On January 5, 2017, Haitian police arrested elected Senator-elect Guy Philippe and took him to Toussaint Louverture Airport in Haiti, where, surrounded by armed agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), he was put handcuffed on a non-commercial aircraft, and sent to Florida to face drug and money laundering charges.
