Abstract:
On October 14, 2003, a Greek court denied the Russian government?s request to extradite Vladimir Gusinsky on charges of fraud and money laundering because Gusinsky?s actions were not considered a crime under Greek law. Both the United States and Israel encouraged Greece not to allow the extradition because they believed Gusinsky promoted an independent media before fleeing Russia in 2000. Spain refused a similar request to extradite Mr. Gusinsky in 2000.
