Abstract:

On March 19, 2013, EUROPOL released its yearly report “EU Serious and Organised Crime Threat Assessment (SOCTA)”.[2] The most detailed study of its kind ever undertaken in the European law enforcement community has identified an estimated 3,600 organized crime groups currently active in the EU. It has been produced by EUROPOL’s Operations Department, drawing on extensive contributions from the organization’s analysis work file on serious and organized crime and external partners.
