Abstract: 
On December 4, 2003, the European Parliament adopted a resolution on a Comprehensive EU Policy Against Corruption, providing for a legislative framework at a Community and international level, political commitment and awareness-raising, and prevention of corruption. The policy urged EU Members and candidate countries to sign and swiftly the United Nations Convention against corruption. It deplores the fact that the Convention does not sufficiently cover the criminalization of passive bribery of international public officials, illegal funding of political parties and effective monitoring of the Convention. Therefore, it calls on the EU Members, the candidate countries and the Commission to make clear statements at the conference organized for the signing of the UN Convention in M?rida, Mexico from December 9-11, 2003, allowing to include these issues at the future Conference of States Parties to the Convention...[more]
