Abstract:
For years, drug-trafficking has been a relevant issue in the U.S.-Mexico relationship. Both countries were generally at odds over several subjects such as extradition and illicit trafficking, including drugs, weapons and chemical precursors, and even about the roots and causes of the problem. Bilateral cooperation has dramatically increased since the 1990’s and new levels of cooperation have been established, conspicuously the Merida Initiative, with the U.S. government considering that in the fight against drugs “Measured both by short-term law enforcement actions and longer-term institutional reforms, Mexico experienced historic progress in 2009."...more...
