Abstract:
On August 29, 1985, U.S. District Court Judge Richard L. Williams reduced the sentence of D. Frank Bazzare, who was found guilty of violating the Export Administration Act, from imprisonment for five years to imprisonment for one year, a fine of $110,000, and 700 hours of community service. Bazzare was convicted of selling, during the period between 1979 and 1982, microcircuits used for radar, cruise missiles, and antisubmarine warfare to an Austrian firm, which then resold the equipment to firms in East Germany, Poland and the Soviet Union. In support of the Motion to Reduce Sentence, 19 letters from Bazzare's family and friends highlighted Mr. Bazarre's good character.
