Abstract:
On July 19, 2005, the European Commission proposed a Council Decision to improve police cooperation between EU Members, especially at the internal borders, and to amend the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement ("Schengen Convention"). The proposal is designed to provide a general framework to improve the operation cooperation, structural coordination and information exchange between law enforcement authorities of EU member states. It responds to the invitation of the Hague Programme to strengthen cross-border police cooperation. It will amend the Convention Implementing the Schengen Agreement, by removing the limitation to land borders I the context of hot pursuit and extending the possibilities in which cross border surveillance and cross border pursuit can be conducted?[more]
