Abstract:
On December 3, 2004, the Colombian government handed Mr. Gilberto RodrÃguez Orejuela, the former leader of the powerful Cali cocaine cartel, to the United States government. Immediately U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration officers took him to Miami to face criminal charges.
Orejuela, 65, will encounter a federal indictment in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. According to the indictment even from jail Mr. RodrÃguez Orejuela continued to manage a sophisticated money-laundering racket, hiding $2.1 billion in drug proceeds. ...[more]
