In the latest of a continuing battle between California and other state governments on the one hand and the federal government on the other hand, the State of California filed a suit on April 30, 1993, seeking reimbursement of almost $2 billion it claims it has incurred in jailing illegal immigrants. The California lawsuit emulates a similar lawsuit brought by the State of Florida. In mid-April, Florida sued for $1.5 billion in immigration reimbursements.
