Abstract:
On October 4, 2007, during a speech to the U.N. General Assembly, Barbados’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Dame Billie Miller called for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to reopen its regional arm on the island. Miller said her government is not persuaded that the decision to close the regional office, “translates into making the region safer from these very real threats.” According to Miller, the UNODC unilaterally decided to close its U.N. regional office, ignoring the valuable assistance it provided to almost 30 states and territories at the very time they needed help...[more]
