Abstract: 

On January 16, 2013, International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda formally opened an investigation into alleged crimes committed on the territory of Mali since January 2012.  After the Malian State referred the situation in Mali to the ICC, the ICC Prosecutor has been conducting a preliminary examination of the matter since July 2012.1
