Abstract:
In the aftermath of the terrorists incidents of September 11, 2001 the Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism (CICTE) has gathered significant momentum. In 1998 the Organization of American States (OAS) established CICTE. In October 1999 CICTE held its first regular session in Miami. Its second session was planned for Bolivia in 2000. Due to problems in its funding, however, the meeting was postponed. In the aftermath of the terrorists incidents of September 2001, the OAS Ministers of Foreign Affairs held their 23rd meeting of consultation of September 21, 2001. In 2002-3 CICTE?s goals are: establishing an electronic database and a network of experts, coordinating training programs, assisting efforts of member states in executing the CICTE Work Plan, especially financial and border controls, and establishing strong links with other international organizations in the fight against terrorism.
