Abstract:
On August 12 and 20, 2003, Argentina?s Congress approved a bill which would annul laws protecting military officers from prosecution for alleged human rights abuses committed during the 1976-83 dictatorship. The country moves closer to thousands of trials related to these abuses and 30,000 missing persons, just as former military officials were recently arrested on Spanish extradition requests. President Kirchner is expected to sign the bill, but the Supreme Court will have the final word on the matter.
