Abstract:
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan announced he would split the job of prosecutor in the in the international tribunals of Rwanda and Yugoslavia (ICTY), and appointed Hassan Jallow as head prosecutor in Rwanda. On September 2, 2003, the ICTY denied Slobodan Milosevic his request for two-year release to prepare his own defense in the case, as he had refused the right to legal counsel. On August 25, Drazen Erdemovic pleaded guilty to murder and confessed to executing at least 100 Muslims from Srebrenaica in 1995. On August 27, Miodrag Jokic of Yugoslavia pleaded guilty to killing civilians by shelling Dubrovnik, in former Yugoslavia. Two mass graves were unearthed in Bosnia, which added perhaps 600 new bodies or more to the count.
