Abstract:
On October 28, 2009, Irish authorities seized more than 120 million contraband cigarettes in Greenore Port, County Louth, Ireland, in the largest single seizure ever made in the European Union. The cigarettes had a potential revenue loss of €40 million. The cigarettes were shipped from the Philippines to Ireland and were described on export and import forms as animal feed. A major international operation, in which the European Anti-Fraud and Irish authorities participated, led to their seizure.
