Abstract:
On September 14, 2007, Yale University and Peru reached an agreement on the long-standing dispute over control of artifacts from Machu Picchu. Yale will return the thousands of archeological pieces it holds in its possession to Peru. The pieces, mainly ceramics, metals, bones, and stone objects, were collected by Hiram Bingham III in 1912. At the time, Bingham negotiated with the Peruvian government to bring the pieces to the United States.
