Abstract:
On August 4, 2001, two Mexican suspects in the death of journalist Philip True of Texas, who died while hiking in Mexico in 1998, resulted in protests by U.S. Government officials and by journalists.
Juan Chivarra and Migue Hernandez, who were charged with robbery and murder, had been detained for two years in prison. Both had admitted to the killing during investigations.
An initial autopsy found that True, a San Antonio Express-News correspondent, had been strangled. A second autopsy order by then prosecutor determined that he had died from a head injury. According to a Reforma newspaper article, recnet investigations showed that True fell to his death...[more]
