Abstract:
On April 8, 1994, the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) announced that it will permit the State of Florida deport 500 to 1,000 illegal aliens who now reside in Florida state prisons. An agreement between the INS and State of Florida, which is the first of its kind, will permit Florida to release early from prison, that is before they have served their time, prisoners who are serving for nonviolent offenses, such as drug possession and burglary. Florida officials have welcomed the agreement since Florida spends $60 million yearly to incarcerate illegal aliens.
