Abstract:
On October 7, 2008, the Mexican government extradited former Guatemalan President Alfonso Antonio Portillo Cabrera to Guatemala to face corruption charges.
Although the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Relations ordered Portillo’s extradition in 2006, Portillo has brought amparos to the Mexican Supreme Court arguing that the Ministry did not have the constitutional authority to decide extraditions.
