Abstract:
On January 29, 1994, the Salvadoran police and judicial authorities criticized and protested the assistance the U.S. Government allegedly gave to U.S. Major Mike Lopez who illegally fled El Salvador after the Salvadoran authorities charged him with murdering Salvadoran citizen Jose Crecencion Diaz Alvarado. According to remarks attributed to Salvadoran Prosecutor General Romeo Melara Granillo, the U.S. Government is displaying a double standard. While the U.S. demands that El Salvador authorities uphold the law, the U.S. violates its law in cases such as this.
