Abstract:
A red notice is an international alert issued by Interpol, specifically the National Central Bureau (NCB), at the request of one of the member countries, stating that the arrest of a particular person is sought with a view to extradition. Interpol’s General Secretariat checks whether the red notice would comply with Interpol’s rules, and then circulates it to every member country. Extracts of some red notices are publicly available on Interpol’s website. Once a notice is published, other members can choose to act, or not act, on that notice. A draft red notice can be recorded by an NCB straight onto Interpol’s database and can be seen immediately by all member states, although draft notices carry an indication that they are draft to avoid confusion with published notices.
