Abstract:
A timely panel discussion on the U.S. withdrawal from compulsory jurisdiction to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) was held in Washington, D.C. on October 23, 1985.  Sponsored by the District of Columbia Bar and the American Society of International Law, the panel represented a spectrum of views from inside and outside the government.  Moderated by Mr. John Lawrence Hargrove, Executive Director of the American Society of International Law, the panel discussed announcement by President Reagan on October 7, 1985 that the U.S. was withdrawing its acceptance of compulsory jurisdiction.
