Abstract:
On September 24, 2003, Belgium?s highest court dismissed complaints against several political figures, including Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, President George W. Bush, and Secretary of State Colin Powell. The allegations against the U.S. officials stemmed from the accidental bombing of a shelter during the first Gulf War which killed over 400 people. The Belgian court ruled that Belgium does not have the jurisdiction to charge them.
