Abstract:
On April 22, 2015, the National Transition Council of the government of the Central African Republic (CAR) voted to create a special criminal tribunal (Special criminal Court, SCC) to address the atrocities that have taken place in the country in recent years (specifically since 2003). The law was adopted with 82 votes in favor, one against and 5 abstentions. The vote follows the adoption on February 5, 2015 by the Council of Ministers of the bill establishing this Court which will be responsible for investigating serious violations of international humanitarian law committed in the territory of the CAR, including crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide.
