British Director of Security Outlines Security Imperatives for the Olympics and Beyond

On June 25, 2012, Jonathan Evans, Director of the Security Service for the United Kingdom, gave the Inauguaral Defense and Security Lecture at the Lord Mayor's in London.  Mr. Evans address, among other things, security threats posed by the Olympics, terrorism, and cybersecurity. He also endorsed the initiatives in the pending Justice and Security Bill.  In particular, he welcomed "the recent proposals from the government to ensure that where sensitive intelligence-related material is relevant to a civil case it will be possible for the Judge to decide to consider it in a closed process. No material that is currently considered in public will be made secret under the new arrangements and the effect will be that more, rather than less, material will go before the courts. But the sensitive material will be protected. This will mean better justice and better accountability."
