Abstract:
On May 26, 2015, Brazilian Federal Police announced the arrest of Pasquale Scotti, 56, in Recife on Italian charges of murder, extortion, and illegal possession of weapons.  Scotti had allegedly used false identification, taxpayer, and voter registration documents. According to the Italian Ministry of Interior, Italian law enforcement authorities were looking for Scotti since his escape from a hospital in Caserta near Naples in 1984. In 1983, he was arrested in a shootout, in which he was wounded and hence was hospitalized for treatment. In 2005, he was convicted in absentia and sentenced to life in prison for murdering more than 20 people, including organizing the killing of a rival’s girlfriend, along with extortion and other crimes.
